Hello, dear reader!
You'll probably be pleased to hear I'm coming down from a heady week of writing, a time when the words were flowing like water. With all the upheaval I've been through this year, it was a welcome time--a phase I've been waiting, hoping, wishing for. One I haven't experienced in many months.
Sadly, the ship has now sailed, and I'm once again feeling like it's a huge, unfulfilling strain to write even a few pages per day. I think that's the way of things. There's an ebb and flow to the world, from the phases of the moon to the cycles of the tides. Maybe the next time I have a flow-day, I'll make note of what phase the moon is in, so that in the future I can ensure I don't have a similar day slated for administrative work!
At least while the writing mojo was here, I totally ran with it. You'll note I've posted three chapters of The Starving Years for your reading pleasure. I also made significant headway on the next PsyCop novel!
Here's hoping you find the flow in all your favorite endeavors!
xoxo

Shopping News
If you're like me, you find sales, specials and discounts hard to resist. Every week I create a sale or special at JCP Books. The current special, valid through August 23, is designed to save on credit card processing fees and put that savings back in your pocket.
MORE THAN ONE IS MUCH MORE FUN
Some people like to buy things one at a time. Buy a book. Come back in an hour. Buy another book. Come back in an hour. Buy a book...you get the idea.
That's a great way to make sure the credit card processors don't go hungry! They charge a fee for every transaction.
I'd rather encourage you to put more stuff in your cart and bump the savings back to you.
This week's special
Buy at least 3 items and receive 10% off your cart using the coupon code MULTI. Offer not valid on wholesale paperbacks.
Enjoy the savings until 8 am CST on Monday, August 23.
Want to make sure you don't miss any specials? Add JCP Books Weekly Sales to your newsletter subscription, or subscribe to the RSS feed in your feed reader.
(Note, for security reasons you can only change your subscription from within your email program. If it gives you trouble, just email me at jcp.heat at gmai dot com and let me know how you want it!)
Free Shipping
If you end up buying things you don't want just to get the free shipping at Amazon, consider shopping at The Book Depository. Shipping is always free, and, get this: shipping to more than 80 countries worldwide is free, too! What a deal!
Use this special link when you shop at book depository and I will earn a commission. Clicking through the Book Depository banners on jordancastilloprice.com and psycop.com will also give me credit.
Please consider leaving ratings and reviews at Amazon, The Book Depository, or Barnes and Noble for my novels and ebooks! If just 5% of my newsletter subscribers left ratings and reviews, I'd have 40 reviews for each title. A new-to-me reader would be much more likely to take a chance on one of my stories if it had that many good ratings.
A New Partner
RainbowEbooks.com now carries titles from JCP Books! Right now I've added the PsyCop series and some standalone shorts to their store. I really love the idea of an exclusively GLBT ebook seller, and hope our partnership contributes to their growth and success.
You can win a Kindle just by friending RainbowEbooks on Facebook by August 19!

You Picked It!
This month I've opted to write an additional chapter rather than doing extensive commentary about the "making of." I will say that initially I was bummed that readers chose to stay in Nelson's POV, however now that it's all written, I can see that going against my own tendencies turned out to be a blessing in disguise. By keeping Javier's POV on hold, not only does it make him much more mysterious, but I was able to shift into TIM'S POV to build sympathy for him right away so he doesn't feel like so much of an interloper to the story, coming in later than everyone else. Using him to describe Nelson gave a much better result.
I'm glad enough people voted to keep Randy. Although if they hadn't, undoubtedly he would have bobbed up to the surface somewhere down the road.

The Starving Years, Chapter 3
It might have been something other than gunshots—for instance, maybe a car was backfiring. Even Nelson, who normally couldn't resist exploring every possibility, no matter how far-fetched, didn't bother coming up with more examples of what else those bangs could possibly have been. Three sharp pops—crack, crack, crack—followed by a single, thin, faintly audible wail.
Something ugly just went down.
